First post. New venture. A word of explanation. Why “thathobbitlady”? Because ever since I saw the first LOTR movie, and the question was asked, “If you could be any character in LOTR, who would you be?” there has never been a doubt in my mind that I would be a hobbit. That is just the type of person I am. Security. Comfort. These are the things I value. I would much rather be sitting in my quiet little hobbit hole drinking a nice cup of tea and eating a tasty dinner (tho I would not be smoking a pipe!) than running all over Middle Earth looking for “adventures.” Early in “The Hobbit” Bilbo explains to Gandalf “We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner! I can’t think what anybody sees in them.” I agree with him wholly, except for the last part. I can understand that other people may want adventures—more power to them! The world needs adventurers. I’m just not one of them. I would hope that my contribution to the world would be to add a sense of peace…and order…and stability. The world needs these things as much as it needs those who will have adventures and discover new things and move the world forward into the next stage. The point is that it takes all types, and I am one type, and other people are other types, and that’s what makes the world go round! Also, hobbits really enjoy their “entertainment” — for them mainly songs and stories and the occassional dance, but for me, movies! And I will probably be writing here quite a bit about movies. So that’s it for now. As every good hobbit knows, there are few joys that can match a good night’s sleep! But before I go, I ask again that question, if anyone is inclined to answer: “If you could be any character in LOTR, who would you be, and why?” Just curious.

I think I’m Sam. I’m not too fond of adventures, but I can get really good at them if I need to. Plus, I’m very loyal and trustworthy, and I like eating.
I’m with you on that eating bit! Yes, I could see you as Sam.
Ahhh…a nice, long post. Like mother, like daughter, eh? I am glad to see that you post about nice, philosophical things in your journal (so far anyway)!
As for me, I am one of those who likes adventures (though I value secutiy too) Also, I like to think of myself as optimistic, immature, and one who is important to their friends. I like to think that I am a bit naive and am learning something new everyday. I am peaceful, but I am feisty and, if the situation calls for it, quite dangerous. I would die for my friends and family and go to the ends of the (Middle)Earth in self discovery. Though, of course, I value security, peace, goodness, and of course, mushrooms and all other good foods. “We’ve already had one, yes. But what about SECOND breakfast???” I know Pippin says that, but I dont think I am *quite* as clutzy and clueless as Pippin (although he is adorable).
I would say I am Merry. I am a hobbit, but only a Took or a Brandybuck because I need my adventures, but I value my home.
I think I’d have to be an elf. They hang out in the forest all the time, have super keen senses, and go on adventures all the time. That’s the life for me. I don’t think my personality is like theirs, though. I have to be more… uh, with the making of facial expressions. Something like that, though.
