I’ve just watched this movie called “Daydream Believers” which is all about how the Monkees musical group/tv show came about in the 60’s. This is my life, man! I was there! I was their biggest fan! Well, one of the biggest fans. Of course, I was Bobby Sherman’s BIGGEST fan. I wonder how many people remember Bobby Sherman, and I wonder what he’s up to now?
But anyway, this Monkee movie was a total blast, and the music is still good, it still holds up. The great thing about the movie, if anyone wants to see it, is how MUCH the actors they got to play the four Monkee guys look like the original Monkees. It’s uncanny. It’s even…creepy. And they are all so cute. Any girls reading this should definately take a look.
Bobby Sherman??? Weren’t the monkees like the Backstreet Boys of the 60’s???

NO. NO. They were so much BETTER. They were NOT cookie-cutter teen idols. Well, not really. Their show was new and different and fairly revolutionary for its day. They were probably the first ones to do “music videos” though, as Mickey Dolenz points out in his audio commentary, they were called “romps” and existed solely because they had to show SOMETHING while the music was playing. But they were the first to do it. And not only that, but you had Mike Nesmith, who was a real songwriter and musician, not just a pretty boy. They wanted to make real music, not just be famous and make money. Well, at least later on they did. It was different. Please! Don’t ever insult them again by calling them the Backstreet Boys! Gag! They were actually somewhat a combination of the Beatles and the Marx Brothers. You do know who the Marx Brothers were?
As for Bobby Sherman, that’s a different story entirely. Backstreet Boy all the way.
