BETTER THAN EZRA

Now might be a good time to tell the story about how I got into BTE so much. It’s kind of funny, actually, how one thing leads to another. I would have to take this all the way back to being a big X-Files fan years ago. Muldar and Scully, what a trip!

Anyway, recently, I was in the library and saw the soundtrack for the X-Files movie, so I took it out and was blown away by literally every track. It’s very rare when you hear new music and are totally blown away by every track on a first hearing. What an awesome experience!

Anyway, as I’m listening to the CD at work in Windows Media Player, I see that the song One More Murder by Better Than Ezra is written by Kevin Griffin.

Yaaa! Kevin Griffin is the name I have given to my hero in my recently completed latest novel. (Chris Baty advises never say “My FIRST novel,” instead say “My latest novel” which is technically not a lie, and sounds so much more impressive.) I am totally in love with the hero in my novel. So, if for no other reason than the name, I decide to check out more BTE music. (Hey! It’s the public library, it’s free, you got nothing to lose and possibly everything to gain.)

Oh yes—and one other reason. When I went online to look up BTE, I read an interview with Kevin Griffin in which he describes their music as “a total EAR-GASM!” Now I should probably have heard that phrase before, but I hadn’t, and it really sparked my imagination, so I had to give a listen.

So I take out Friction, Baby, and don’t care for it much on a first listening, but after several more listenings, I am so totally hooked. So I go to Wal Mart and buy After the Robots, and I am instantly hooked. And then I order Deluxe online, and I am even more hooked, and now I can’t stop listening. I mean really, it’s like a sickness.

And my birthday is coming up end of this week, so you can guess what’s on my list. More BTE! I can’t wait!

Oh, and one more thing I want to say about BTE. Most of the time I have NO IDEA what the lyrics mean. But I love the music, it has so much energy, and Kevin Griffin’s voice is sooooo sexy!

Enough said.
