Oh, I just have to answer this!
I was six or seven, and my Aunt Barbara took me and my sister to see The Beatles in Help! She took us in her little green (or red, I don’t remember which) MG convertible, and we sat in the tiny space behind the seat, so THAT in itself was fun, driving all around town with the wind in our hair. It was also fun because every time she would pass someone else in an MG, they would honk and wave at each other, and that was just so amazing to me that you could have this bond with strangers.
But I digress. We went to see Help! and I was blown away by the music, and the images, and the BEATLES. It was so much fun. I think probably this movie was the beginning of “music videos.” They would play a song, and the Beatles would run around doing all kinds of goofy stuff, so it was music and comedy and story all in one. It may be that I became a fan of movies and music and comedy and story AND The Beatles, all at the same time.
Afterwards, on the way home, we were discussing which of the Fab Four we each thought was the cutest. I don’t remember who I preferred, but I do remember that this day opened up many new doors for me. And the fact that I was being included in adult concerns and adult conversations when I was only six or seven…well, yeah, this blew my mind.
That Christmas I got a Beatles wallet. ::sigh::
I do believe it was the Spice Girls. Thats the first one I remember, anyway.
