I stayed home from work today, partly because my stomach was feeling bad, but also because I was well overdue for a “mental health day” break from my job. It was a relaxing day and I got a lot done going through papers and filing and organizing. I feel better now.
Being home during the day when I’m not usually home, I got to experience things I don’t usually experience. Like watching The Today Show in the morning, and Palladia in the afternoon. And hearing the ice dropping in the ice machine in the kitchen. And seeing the cats playing with their toys. When they’re not napping in the sunshine on the bed in the front room, that is.
Today I also heard what sounded like a GIANT and very FAST plane passing overhead in the middle of the afternoon. It was so intense, I ran outside and saw some of the neighbors had also come out to see what was going on. If I didn’t know better, I would have said The Blue Angels were back in town. Was this an odd event…or does this incredible noise and sensation pass over the house every weekday, and I’m just not here to experience it?
In the afternoon there was a torrential rainstorm, with the wind blowing the rain at a 45 degree angle, and the rain “running” down the street, if you know what I mean. Thunder, lightning, wind, the whole nine yards. And 20 minutes later, it was all over. Made me feel like I was back in Florida.
Sometimes when I am at work and it is raining, I wonder if it’s also raining back at the house, and if so, what must that be like. Well, now I know.
Then Russ came in from work, and the cats start begging for their dinner, and there’s our dinner to cook, and TV to watch, and computer to catch up on. But it was good being home today. I wish I could do it more often.
