Writer’s Block: Acquired taste

It’s not really that weird, but I like raisins in a green salad. I probably picked that up from my parents, who also add apples to a green salad. I like that too, but my stomach is not always in agreement with the apples. Of course, my claim to fame is my college creation: the Poison Pizza. American chhese and ketchup on a slice of white bread, heated til the cheese melts. Haven’t had a REAL Poison Pizza in years. As you get older and wiser and have more money, you tend to use higher quality ingredients like provolone, tomato sauce and French bread. No longer quite so “poisonous.”

The first thing that comes to mind is imitation kluski. Start with leftover spaghetti , microwave it then put on a generous helping of ketchup. Come on Chris, I know you have done it…. and love it. Maybe it is an acquired taste. Nothing beats real kluski leftover from perogies but who has the time or the energy these days. John or James… have you ever done this?

Yes, fake kluski! Only I don’t microwave it, I fry it in a pan in some butter, salt, pepper, and if you’ve got it—garlic! But the ketchup is essential. Put this on a plate with a fried egg, serve with a cup of hot tea, and you’ve got a fabulous “comfort food” dinner.

    weird food cobinations

Hi, this is your mother. Many years ago in N.Y. Dad made scrambled eggs, and he put some sliced bananas in the fry pan with the eggs. Very weird, but it didn’t taste too bad. Mom

OK, I have to ask…HOW do you add it to the chicken? Do you just dip the chicken in the sour cream? And with the beef stew, do you stir it in? I’m up for trying anything!

Yes, I have to agree. Love the sour cream. A baked potato is just an excuse….. Chris, another comfort food just came to mind. We had it this evening. Open faced chicken or turkey sandwiches. LOVE the way the bread got all gooey and soggy.

    RE: Sour Cream

Yeah, I pretty much just dip pieces of chicken in sour cream, which reminds me of a hungarian recipe called “Chicken Paprika”. With the beef stew, I add a glob of sour cream in it, dip the beef pieces in it, and what ever gets mixed in to the rest of it still tastes delicious!!
