SUMMER READING LIST

Yesterday I finished reading C.S. Lewis’ Perelandra. At some point in the future I will move on to reading the third book in this trilogy, That Hideous Strength. I first read these books in college, so this is a re-reading for me. There is something comforting about going back to the old favorites. It’s like saying hello again to old friends.

But new friends are nice too. Next on my reading list is the latest Cat Who mystery, which I’ve already started. Of course this book is also part of a series, so to some extent, also like an old friend. I’m also looking forward to the next Bloody Jack book (bound to be a rollicking good time!) Also coming up soon on my summer reading list, I have decided to finally read the last book in the Left Behind series, as well as the last book in the Series of Unfortunate Events. How is it that I worked my way through 11 or 12 volumes in each of these series and somehow never got around to the last story in each? I don’t know. Maybe I just hate to see a good thing end.

As I’m writing this, it occurs to me that even my planned “new” reading has a healthy dose of the familiar to it. I need a new book to read, something completey different.

Any suggestions? One request I would make, if you suggest something: let it be a freestanding work, NOT part of a series. I think I’ve got enough series going on at the moment, thank you!

Hi Chris, which Cat Who book are you reading? Maybe I’ll get to the library and reread an old friend. A visit with old Qwill would be very relaxing. Mom

I agree! Visiting with Quill is quite relaxing! I’m reading The Car Who Blew the Whistle, about the banker who was a railroad fanatic and ran off with a lot of money. I’m only halfway through, so I can’t yet say much about how it might end up. Polly is having her house built, and Celia has moved to town and is working with Quill to “spy” on the banker’s family, to see what she can find out for him. The cats are enjoying Celia’s “kabibble.”
