In the next week or so, Mary will be moving to the west coast of Florida, and today, as I was browsing around the internet, I came up with this amazing bit of info: the place where she is moving is apparently a hop skip and a jump away from where the movie Edward Scissorhands was filmed.
Of course, it’s been about twenty years since that movie, and that neighborhood never really looked like this anyway (the Hollywood crew gave it a “makeover” especially for the movie, then put it all back the way it was when they were done). If you Google Map the place today, you would never recognize it as the same neighborhood. Still, I think it’s kind of cool that Mary will be living so close to movie history.
Carpenters Run
Hey Chris, many years ago while with IBM I worked with a guy (Rich) who lived in Carpenters Run, the development where they filmed the neighborhood. As I recall, the movie studio paid him $1500 to paint the house a pastel color, and then restored it back to the original after the filming. Rich said one of the big kicks was to see his house on the outside, and then when the actors walked through the front door it wasn’t really his house at all. The inside was all hollywood. I can recall driving by on St. Rd 54 and seeing the different colors. The local radio personalities here always talk about how Hollywood should do more filming in the TB area, and often site Edward Scissorhands as an example.
Glad to hear Mary will be in the area. We’ll set some extra seats for the holiday to have her and her boyfriend over.

That’s interesting, because I was wondering how much the movie people would have paid for use of each house’s exterior for three months. I guess it was a good deal for the homeowners, because they were only inconvenienced for three months, and got a free housepainting job AND $1500. I would do it. Was your friend’s house one of the main houses in the film, was it shown as belonging to some of the characters? Whose house was it supposed to be?
