THE DAILY SANDWICH

Recently, Russ said, “Thank you for making my sandwich every morning.” I said, “I’m happy to do it.” And I am happy to do it, and here’s why:

I’m happy I have a husband who goes to work every day and is willing to eat food from home rather than spending $5-$10 of our money on a restaurant lunch. We have similar ideas about the best ways to economize, so it’s a blessing that we are both on the same page regarding how our money should be budgeted.

I’m happy I have a husband who goes to work. After the tornado, Russ did a little freelancing for Marvel while he looked for a new job, and now he’s back to work full-time! I really have no time for people who bellyache about their jobs. If you have a job, be thankful! And if it’s not the kind of job you can be thankful for, then look for a new one! Having a job is a blessing.

I’m happy to have a husband. I don’t think I’ve yet gotten over how marvelous it is that I finally found someone who so perfectly complements me, someone with whom I share so many interests, and with whom I have no fear whatsoever of being absolutely genuine.

In the best case scenario, Russ and I die together in our sleep when we’re 100 years old. Realistically I know that’s probably not going to happen, and though I’m confident we’re going to have many, many years together, I never take for granted what a blessing it is to have him in my life. Someday he may not be here for me to make a sandwich for…so for right now, every day that we get to be together, I’ll make him as many sandwiches as he wants, for as long as I can!

Hi Chris – I LOVE what you wrote about Russ and your marriage. You have such a great attitude!! It would be so nice if more marriages were like yours and Russ’. So many people take “the little things” in life for granted, but you enjoy and appreciate everything you have, and to me, that is true happiness!! Don’t ever change!! Always stay as happy as you are today!!!

    Your long distance cuz,
    Lori

Hi, Lori! Good to hear from you again! Hope everything is going well with you. Thanks for the great comments! Yes, I got myself a good one, and I’m not taking that for granted! 🙂 I think part of the reason why Russ and I appreciate each other so much is because we found each other so late in life. Young people might tend to take things for granted, maybe even feel entitled, like the world owes them a living, but us “older folks” know better.

    Do stay in touch!

    Love, Chrissy
