Yesterday morning when I woke up I got so busy doing things that I completely forgot to weigh myself. So I don’t know if this pound that I’ve put on took place over one day or two days. But I do know this: FOOTBALL has something to do with it!

I have begun enjoying college football on Saturdays. Haha! Who would have ever thought I’d become a football fan? And I know some people might think, “Oh yeah, she’s just pretending to like it cos Russ likes it.” But that is not the case at all. Sure, he introduced me to it, to some extent, he’s explained the game to me, and a lot of the behind-the-scenes drama that goes on with the coaches and such, but I certainly would not spend hours upon hours of my time on something that I didn’t truly enjoy. Not when there are so many other things I also want to/have to do!

But anyway, what does football have to do with weight gain? Well, obviously you are sitting around all day, watching television. And there is something so…festive about football that it just makes you want to party and eat and snack and have a good time while you’re watching it. I think maybe for me a lot of what I think football must be is so wrapped up in holidays like Thanksgiving and New Years (“The Big Game”), and of course anything connected with holidays naturally means EATING!

So what am I going to do about this? Cos I do want to watch football, but I don’t want to pig out. Well, maybe I can get some kinds of “good for you” foods to eat (not the Chex Mix that we’ve had!) Also, I think I should probably make this an opportunity for drinking lots and lots of water. Put a slice of lemon or lime in the glass…or better yet, a slice of lemon AND lime, and then I have a truly festive drink!

Ah yes. I think these things might help. It only takes a little thinking things through in order to solve a problem.

THE DANCING PLASTIC BAG

Well, yesterday I told a horrible story about seeing a dog get hit by a car. Yes, that was horrible. So I feel compelled to balance it out with something really cool that happened.

First, to appreciate this, you have to know something about the movie American Beauty. In it, there is this character, this high school boy, who is always walking around with his video camera. He has a favorite video that he shot of a plastic bag being tossed about by the wind. I know, I know, it doesn’t sound like much, but he waxes poetic about how *beautiful* it is, and when you watch it, you kind of know what he means.

So anyway, ever since seeing this movie, if I ever see a plastic bag “dancing” in the breeze, I always think of this movie, and I always manage to find beauty in the sight.

Now, the other day, I’m going over the bridge into work, and traffic is a little backed up, we’re just crawling. And I see, on the side of the bridge, just a little ahead of me, this plastic bag dancing in the breeze. It’s one of those long, clear plastic bags that newspapers are put in. Anyway, I watch this, and I’m thinking how beautiful it is, and then I see it get swept up on the wind in front of my car, and pass directly in front of my windshield, and then float over to the passenger door…and quietly slip into the front seat of my car.

Because I drive with my windows open. I almost always drive with my windows open. I just thought it was kind of cool that this plastic bag chose to come and sit down beside me, probably the only person out there on that crowded bridge who, if they were looking at it at all, would have been thinking “Oh yeah… the bag dancing in the wind! That’s so cool!”

It made me feel like the bag had *picked* me, that something beautiful had chosen me. It was a very silly, but very special moment.

NEWS AND STUFF

I realize I really haven’t been posting much here except my weight, and even then, it’s JUST my weight, usually, and no thoughts on what’s going on in my life. So I think I should take at least a brief moment to do an update.

After the wedding, all is well, except I’m feeling a little tired out. Is it reactive to all the excitement before the wedding, all the planning, all the shopping? Anti-climatic? Or does it have anything to do with the fact that most nights we stay up till almost midnight, watching Jay Leno? (Love Jay!) Then, waking up at 6 or 6:30, so not always a lot of sleep. Also, it’s been a bit CRAZY at work lately. So, lots of pressures piling up.

Okay, how about this? Russ has turned me into a football fan, and the last two weeks, Alabama has lost! I don’t know which is more exhausting, seeing your team lose…or seeing them win! BOTH are exhausting. Football is exhausting. But I’m enjoying it so much.

And then this morning, I saw a dog get hit by a car. I SAW IT HAPPEN, practically in front of my eyes. The dog passed in front of my car, in front of the next lane, and the next…but when it got to the last lane…BAM! There was no way it could have been avoided, no way the driver of that van could have anticipated a dog would be running across a four lane road on the college campus. I saw it go under the wheels. It was very upsetting.

What else is new? Still working on changing my name everywhere, on credit cards, car insurance, etc, waiting for my new checks to come in. Also looking forward to signing up for NaNo. I’ll be writing more and more about that as the time gets closer.

Russ and I have just started season 2 of Lost, and season 5 of 24. No spoilers, but I will say this…very dramatic, very intense. Especially 24. But then, did you really expect any different?

The weather is starting to get cooler here. Not so much during the middle of the day, but the mornings are definitely cooler. We’re not running the a/c at night any more. I’m looking forward to some fall colors coming in soon, but Russ says since it’s been an extremely dry summer, the colors will not be as good as they would have been otherwise. No matter. Having come from South Florida, ANY autumn leaves will be excitement to me.

I’m seriously thinking about getting my hair cut. I don’t like it at all the way it is, and to get what I want, I think I need to go to someone who knows what they’re doing. Usually I just take a pair of scissors into the bathroom, but I think the time has come to get serious and treat myself to an honest to goodness HAIRCUT.

Well, that’s all for now. I’m off to see if the NaNo site has opened up for registration!

I’ve put on about two pounds in the last two days. That tells you what kind of weekend I had. Yesterday was very terrible. I was HUNGRY! And I ate just about everything I could. So I’m not surprised, but I’m holding to the idea that “quick on” also means “quick off.” I can probably get this number back down in a day or two. The only frustrating part is covering the same ground, over and over again.

I’m like a hurricane, wobbling slightly off course, and then getting back on course.
