IN SEARCH OF THE PERFECT SIDE SALAD: WENDY’S

Once upon a time you could go to Wendy’s and for 99 cents get a really decent little salad that had lettuce, shredded carrots, cucumbers and at least one cherry tomato. Nowadays, you pay $1.59, and don’t even get any cucumbers. I think the bowl is smaller too. Well, they do give you THREE cherry tomatoes instead of one. I suppose that’s supposed to even things out? Make up for the 50% increase in price, smaller portion and no cukes?

Not in my book it doesn’t.

However, even at a whopping $1.59, this salad is still reasonably priced. The best you can say is that it nicely compliments Wendy’s other Value Menu items: baked potato, chili, chicken nuggets or a small hamburger. Of course I am not eating the hamburger nowadays (ten pounds gone in one month! No burger tastes as good as that feels!), but the other items are tasty and reasonably priced.

The worst thing maybe that you can say about the Wendy’s salad is that they give you a package of Marzetti dressing, which is small (only 1.1 ounce) and watery. Not the best dressing in the world.

If dining at Wendy’s, I would advise bringing a little container of your own additional items to make this little salad more of a meal. A tupperwear of beans or olives or tuna fish could really spice this up! Might want to bring some of your own dressing as well, or at least ask for another packet.

The good thing about Wendy’s of course is that it’s fast, and you can fill your cup with iced tea as often as you like. In a pinch it’s a good deal. But if you are looking for a truly spectacular side salad, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
